European Chef, Neil Slater, has been looking forward to the opening of his new restaurant, Le Manoir at Hamurana Lodge. "What with the newly planted organic vegetable and herb gardens and the opening of the restaurant this Thursday, these are very exciting times at Hamurana Lodge" Mr. Slater said.
All the vegetables for the main courses will be changed on a regular basis. This allows our Chef to be creative whilst taking advantage of the different varieties, which will be available at different times as the gardens start to flourish. In the meantime the produce will be sourced locally until that time when the gardens are able to sustain the restaurant on their own.
Our potatoes will vary in all shapes and sizes, with a potato dish of the day allowing our Chef more creativity. A couple of native varieties (Te Maori and Huakororo) were planted, so look forward to these in the upcoming months!
"We have fresh baked bread from Ciabatta Bakery in Mountain Road and Cheese made by an Artisan cheese maker at Mt Eliza Cheeses in the Bay of Plenty" says Chef Slater. "All in all our ingredients are sourced from as close to the lodge as possible without compromising on quality. This enables our overseas visitors to really connect with the area and hopefully enlighten some of the locals too, with some great fresh produce they may not have known even existed". The objective is to supply all the food from within 100-mile of Hamurana Lodge. "Look out for fresh honeycomb and liquid honey becoming available in the New Year" Neil adds.
Having worked in Italian restaurants and having lived in Spain, Mr. Slater's methods and flavours are mostly Mediterranean and these along with the availability of fresh organic produce will be the main influences on his menus, which will be changing according to the seasons.
Add to these Hereford Prime Eye fillet, NZ Racks of lamb and fresh fruit sorbets and there is more than enough of a selection to exceed expectations of our most discerning of guests. "That's our aim here at Le Manoir and we are sure you'll come along and agree!"
